Literacy in Hamilton Infographic

How to Teach With Hamilton Info Sheet

Process Analysis

I began by searching the Internet for free infographic creation software. I came across several, but really liked Canva, which had thousands of free templates and was easy to navigate. My images for my infographic were all housed on Canva's site; I searched Google for the images used on my teaching sheet. I carefully evaluated whether the images I selected fit with my theme, remaining consistent and professional throughout.

I created my teaching chart first, primarily to practice using the software and put my thoughts into a more logical order. I was also trying to think about the direction I wanted to go with my infographic. Ultimately, I decided I needed to look up some statistics to complete an infographic. I think my infographic makes it immediately obvious how rich Hamilton is on a literary level. The sheer volume of words, speed of words and vocabulary level prove the complexity of Hamilton as a text for analysis. As I attempted to consolidate this information into an easy-to-follow infographic, I realized how incredibly rich the text is. It is my hope that anyone evaluating my infographic will clearly see the complexity of Hamilton, which is not immediately obvious otherwise. I tend to prefer visual information and concrete facts; however, this assignment was particularly challenging for me. I think I might be too familiar with Hamilton--I feel like I am too close to it, and cannot see the challenges it may pose as clearly as an outsider. It was difficult for me to break it down into an infographic, because I view it as a whole. However, in completing the assignment, I felt like I had clarified my own thinking. I also really enjoyed the process, and think my students could really gain from creating visual presentations.
